Welcome to Matcha Trip, an enchanting little cafe tucked away on the second floor of the Henn Na Hotel, located in the vibrant Taito City of Tokyo. This cafe is a true haven for matcha lovers and anyone intrigued by the rich world of Japanese green tea. With a commitment to offering a comprehensive matcha experience, Matcha Trip stands out as a must-visit destination for both tourists seeking a taste of authentic Japan and locals wanting to delve deeper into the nuances of tea.

As soon as you step inside, the welcoming atmosphere envelops you, thanks to the friendly staff—especially Rina, who greets every visitor with genuine warmth and enthusiasm. The chic yet cozy decor provides a perfect backdrop for a leisurely afternoon of tasting and learning.

Matcha Trip offers an exquisite range of tasting options. Indulge in the Grand Menu, where you can savor a compelling comparison of six distinct varieties of green tea. Each cup, priced at JP¥3,000, is a journey through flavor profiles, from the grassy, earthy tones of sencha to the nutty warmth of hojicha. But the real star is the Matcha Comparison; for just JP¥3,000, you can delight in matcha sourced from five revered production areas in Japan. This isn’t just tea; it’s an education in your cup. Want something a bit creamier? Their Latte Comparison is a fantastic choice, allowing you to try a trio of delightful lattes, including a luxurious matcha latte and a two-layer sensation.

If you’re ready to immerse yourself fully in the art of tea, consider booking one of their unique experiences—like the Matcha Comparison and Making Experience for JP¥8,800. Here, not only do you taste, but you also learn the intricate methods behind tea preparation. Customers rave about their visits, with Julia Strnad saying, “When I found Matcha Trip…I was wrong to think it was just a hotel cafe.” This sentiment echoes throughout reviews, with Sarah Leif and Vin Tangpricha highlighting how knowledgeable the owners are while praising the engaging and informative atmosphere.

For those who appreciate depth and nuance in their beverage choices, the chance to learn from expert hosts like Chisei and Rina transforms a simple cafe visit into an unforgettable memory. As wutinan songpromtip eloquently puts it, “If you're a fan of matcha—or just curious—you must visit this incredible matcha shop.” Indeed, it's not just about drinking tea; it's about experiencing the cultural significance and sheer joy that each cup can offer.

So, if you find yourself near the iconic Sensōji Temple, make sure to carve out time in your itinerary to explore the delightful offerings at Matcha Trip. Whether you’re enjoying a peaceful moment with a cup of matcha or diving into a hands-on tea-making experience, you’ll leave with not just a full heart but also a richer understanding of Japan’s tea culture.

I was looking for a good Matcha place in this area. When I found Matcha Trip I really didn’t know what to expect, I was just hoping for good Matcha. Walking into the building, where the cafe is connected to a hotel on the second floor. I was thinking “Oh this is just a hotel cafe.” I was WRONG, we were immediately greeted by Rina with a huge smile and good vibes. We sat down and she walked us through the different options in the menu and recommended how to order. We got the flight of matcha for a tasting before we ordered what matcha to get in the full size drinks we ordered. Rina told us about the different regions each one came from. She also provided a map with each level bitterness , umami, roasting aroma, green and freshness. Told us how to try the matcha flight. Chisei, Rina’s husband walked us through the process of how matcha is grown and the difference between each. He used to farm matcha and is very knowledgeable about the process. Rina also makes the desserts at the cafe, which were amazing! This was such a great experience and they are only open Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s! Thank you Rina and Chisei, this was such a great experience and I can’t wait to come back to learn more!

My partner and I LOVED our matcha & latte tasting experience. The owners are so knowledgeable, welcoming, and kind! We learned so much about matcha quality/farming/ how to make it. A MUST experience we will recommend to others

Booked this matcha experience the afternoon before (happened to be the last spot out of 5 total slots) on Viator after feeling FOMO towards missing out on a matcha making experience at Chazuna (Uji). Tourists, book your experiences ahead! I was very pleased to start off my greater Tokyo experience with matcha trip. I would recommend other tourists to do a little learning about matcha/tea prior to this experience as it'd deepen appreciation for what you learn & experience. But, this is also very informative & exciting for those going in cold knowledge-wise, as Chisei-san has 7(?) years of farming experience, working English explanations of the processes and types of tea, a structured organized experience that tourists can follow in English, and an incredible wealth of experience-informed knowledge. The general experience is: - learning about matcha (production, process, using handout visuals, etc) - comparing your 10 matchas (aka tasting) - trying matcha/hojicha lattes - final wrap-up, questions Of course if they change the format that is up to them. At the end, the 5 of us got to look at the little shop/products area, and as a HOJICHA lover, I was excited to find powdered hojicha. From higher grade leaves. Bought myself x2 bags! Could keep raving about this experience because it was so enjoyable & informative. Thank you Chisei-san!

If you’re a fan of matcha — or even just curious — you must visit this incredible matcha shop just steps away from Sensō-ji Temple in Tokyo. This place is more than just a tea stop — it’s an experience. The highlight? A 5-matcha comparison set, featuring carefully selected matcha from different regions across Japan: Tokyo, Aichi, Shizuoka, Kyoto, Fukuoka, and Kagoshima. Each has its own unique aroma, flavor, and depth — and the owner kindly takes the time to explain the subtle differences between them. You don’t need to be an expert — just bring your curiosity and love for quality! The owner was so kind and welcoming, clearly passionate about tea and eager to share his knowledge. It felt like a warm, personal tea ceremony made just for me. Whether you’re looking to discover your favorite type of matcha, pick up a meaningful souvenir, or simply enjoy a peaceful tea break in the heart of Asakusa — this place is absolutely worth a visit. I left with a deeper appreciation for matcha and a heart full of joy. Highly recommended for anyone who loves matcha, Japanese culture, or just wants a special experience in Tokyo.

This was one of my last stops before heading back to California. I did the matcha flight and the way that Chisei explained everything made me feel like I was back at a winery in Sonoma County. I recommend getting a sweet treat because they pair well with the flight. Honestly everyone needs a sweet treat.

Chisei and Rina were wonderful hosts and instructors! This matcha tasting experience really exceeded all my expectations. Chisei gave us a thorough understanding of the industry as an insider and we left with a deep appreciation of the science, art, and labour required to produce a gram of matcha! Their level of attention to the class was amazing and we enjoyed being able to taste different types from the top prefectures, making our own usuchas, trying two types of bamboo whisks, and even drinking lattes.

Incredibly delicious Matcha Latte and Matcha chocolate cake! Rina and Chisei are incredibly warm-hearted people who want to share their passion for Matcha with others. I had the chance to learn about Matcha and tea while enjoying my latte, and I can highly recommend booking a Matcha tasting experience. Unfortunately, I don’t have enough time on this trip, but I will definitely come back next time! Thank you for the wonderful conversation—I wish you lots of success for the future and hope to see you again!
